Description:
This lecture discusses the pathophysiology of the three different types of sleep apnea but focuses on the more common obstructive sleep apnea and its effects on the human body including the eye. Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with multiple systemic disorders including hypertension, memory loss, daytime somnolence, worsened diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. A literature review of the effects of sleep apnea on the eye and possible treatment options is discussed.
