Using a cultural lens, this workshop will define implicit bias, its characteristics, factors that influence implicit bias, and the consequences of implicit bias in the workplace. The critical role of use of self in working with culturally diverse populations will be explored, along with micro- and macro-level evidence based practices to de-biasing. Particular attention will be given to the significance of understanding how one’s own values, beliefs, and attitudes affect health care service delivery in both positive and negative ways. Strategies of best practices in developing and sustaining culturally sensitive working relationships with patients will be presented using case vignettes.
