- This program is presented to improve the identification and staging of diabetic retinopathy. Classification schemes have advanced from comparison to color fundus photography to AI-assisted algorithms over the decades. In addition, it is intended to promote better prevention of visual complications related to diabetes, promote earlier treatment as needed, and improve care provider communication and coordination of care efforts for patients with diabetes (PWD).
