The Benedict Professorship in Practice Management and Administration was established in 1982 by a generous endowment provided by Mr. Bill Benedict and Family. The purpose of the professorship is to provide education and consultation for optometrists professional students residents faculty and staff in the areas of practice management and administration. The professorship is expressly intended to focus on the independent practice of optometry. This year Carole Burns OD FCOVD will join us as the 2011-2012 Benedict Professor. Dr. Carole Burns is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry and The State University of New York Pediatric and Vision Therapy Residency. She is a fellow of The College of Optometrists in Vision Development and CEO of Professional VisionCare a multi-location full scope optometric practice with nine practicing optometrists. She is a clinical instructor at The Ohio State University College of Optometry where she has served as assistant chief of the Binocular Vision and Pediatric Services. Since 1994 Dr. Burns has been a member of the Association of Practice Management Educators and authored the Specialty Practice section of Business Aspects of Optometry the practice management textbook used by all optometry students. Dr. Burns is a faculty member of Ciba and Essilors MBA Management Business Academy and presents nationally to optometrists and their staff. She is also a faculty member of the FPA First Practice Academy and presents to new optometric business owners. Additionally she is professional editor of the Review of Optometric Business on line magazine which reaches over 9000 optometrists weekly. Dr. Burns will present the following timely topics at UHCO on November 6th Leading Staff to Excellence Fire a Staff Member Legally in a way that they continue to Promote your Practice Tips for Thriving During Economic Downturns Getting Paid Increase Profits from Services and Products through Internal Marketing This program will also include the 2011 Professional Responsibility Course for Texas Optometrists presented by Dr. Janice Wensveen from 300-400 pm.
