The USAFSG requires AF eye care providers AF ADARCCivilian optometrists and ophthalmologists to attend the USAF Refractive Surgery for War fighters Workshop IAW USAF Refractive Surgery USAF-RS program 21 May 2007 and related memorandums. This workshop covers the fundamentals of laser based refractive surgery RS technology and techniques pre and post RS patient management specific program requirements and other vision correction issues. Initial training is required for USAF optometrists and ophthalmologists who provide pre and post RS clinical management. Completion of this course is required before an AF eye care professional may provide post-CRS examination to AF Aviation and War fighter personnel. It is recommended for technicians and other staff assigned to USAF eye care clinics. Refresher workshop attendance is highly recommended every 4 years at a minimum or as directed by the USAF-RS Consultant. Additional training will be delivered on a variety of USAF operational eye care issues. Several lecturespresentations are COPE approved and others are pending COPE approval.
