About 30 million people in the US have dry eye disease DED symptoms and estimates say it will soon account for about 50 million patients. This program aims to address this growing need by giving optometrists clear strategies that can be applied right away in their own practices. Although there is a wealth of new research in dry eye comparatively speaking far less has changed in every day practice patterns. Optometrists understand why ocular surface disease ought to be identified and treated yet not all practitioners proactively react to this knowledge. To that end this program aims to educate eye care practitioners so that they are better prepared to offer clear diagnoses and effective treatment. Ocular surface diseases such as dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction can severely affect eyesight and quality of life but new therapies and diagnostic strategies continue to emerge. This program will offer clear direction explaining the research and using it as a foundation for real-life practice.
